Britain: Judge surprised by Prince Harry's absence in court

Prince Harry was due to appear at London's High Court to give evidence in a trial against the British newspaper Daily Mirror, but the phone hacking trial was presented without him. Harry's lawyer said the Duke of Sussex would not be available to testify on the first day after the opening statements. Harry is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The judge looked very surprised by this.

In fact, Harry's lawyer said he flew to Los Angeles on Sunday after the birthday of his 2-year-old daughter, Lilibet. To this, Justice Timothy Fancourt said with surprise, he had instructed Harry to be in court on the first day of the case. Andrew Green, a lawyer for the Mirror Group newspapers, was visibly upset by Harry's absence on the first day.
