LIVE Coromandel Express collided with goods train in Odisha: 8 bogies of the train overturned; More than 132 passengers injured

 


The Coromandel Express derailed after colliding with a goods train in Odisha's Balasore on Friday evening. 8 bogies of the train overturned. At the same time, the engine of the train climbed on the goods train. There is news of 132 passengers injured in the accident. Relief and rescue work is going on. The train was going from Howrah to Chennai.

The injured have been admitted to Bahanaga hospitals. Medical teams have also been sent from Balasore and other nearby districts for help. All trains on this route have been stopped. The administration has issued the emergency control room number 6782262286 regarding the accident.


Additional DMET said that 15 ambulances have been sent to the spot. Shifting of the injured to Soro CHC has started. Some may also be referred for better treatment.


NDRF team reached the spot

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed Minister of State Pramila Mallick and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) to rush to the accident site immediately. Minister and (SRC) are reaching the spot.


Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said that a large number of people were injured in the accident. Around 50 ambulances have reached the spot. A large number of buses are being arranged to take the injured to the hospital.


The first 22-member NDRF team from Balasore Railway Station (BLS) has already reached the spot. Another 32-member Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) team left for the spot half an hour earlier.

On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over the accident. He wrote on Twitter that the Shalimar-Coromandel Express carrying passengers from Bengal collided with a goods train near Balasore this evening. There is news of many people getting injured due to this.


We are working closely with the Government of Odisha and also with the South Eastern Railway. A team of 5-6 members is being sent to the spot to help the Odisha government. I am taking information on this issue from the Chief Secretary and other senior officers.

It is being told that this accident happened due to the arrival of both the trains on the same line. Due to a faulty signal on the railway track, both the trains collided on the same track.


According to media reports, this train left Shalimar station at 3.15 pm. It derailed after colliding with a goods train at 7:20 pm near Bahanaga station, 40KM from Balasore in Odisha.
